  • Functional medicine practitioners may use a combination of conventional medical treatments and evidence-based complementary therapies, including dietary changes, nutritional supplements, lifestyle modifications, and mind-body approaches, to support the body's natural healing mechanisms. The goal of functional medicine is to optimise health, improve quality of life, and prevent chronic diseases by addressing the underlying factors that contribute to health imbalances and chronic conditions. This approach has gained popularity in recent years as it aligns with the growing interest in personalised and holistic healthcare.

  • Facing your first session, whether you're new to therapy or have prior experience, can be a deeply emotional experience.
In our initial meeting, you'll have the opportunity to discuss what has led you to seek support. It's important to understand that there's absolutely no pressure to share anything you're not comfortable with at this stage.
A significant portion of our first session is dedicated to establishing a warm and trusting connection, and together, we'll gently explore the potential directions for our ongoing work. Part of our standard practice involves conducting an assessment, the specifics of which will depend on the reasons behind your decision to seek support. Your comfort and well-being are our top priorities, and we will work together at a pace that feels right for you, with empathy and understanding every step of the way.

Understanding
Health + Hormones

  • Hormones play a powerful role in how we feel each day. Fluctuations in estrogen, testosterone, and cortisol can impact our mood, stress levels, and even energy. To support a balanced mood, aim for regular sleep, exercise, and a balanced diet rich in Omega-3s and B-vitamins. Managing stress is also key, as high-stress levels can disrupt hormone balance over time.

  • Quality sleep is essential for maintaining hormonal health. During sleep, our bodies regulate hormones that influence hunger, stress, and reproductive health. Aim for 7-9 hours of uninterrupted sleep each night. To improve sleep, establish a calming bedtime routine, limit caffeine in the afternoon, and create a sleep-friendly environment by reducing light and noise.

  • Sexual health is deeply connected to both the mind and body. Stress, anxiety, and even past experiences can shape our sexual experiences. Practice mindfulness to reconnect with your body, and consider deep breathing exercises to reduce stress. Taking time for self-care, physical activity, and open communication with your partner can support a more satisfying sexual experience.

  • Small lifestyle changes can help promote hormone balance. Regular physical activity, especially strength training and yoga, can positively impact your hormone levels. Eating a diet rich in whole foods, including healthy fats like avocado and olive oil, supports hormone production. Limiting sugar, managing stress, and staying hydrated are also crucial for maintaining balance.

  • Healthy communication is the foundation of any intimate relationship. Expressing your needs, boundaries, and desires openly helps create trust and understanding. Practice active listening and validate your partner’s feelings, even if you disagree. If difficult topics arise, try discussing them in a neutral setting when you’re both calm. Open and honest communication paves the way for deeper intimacy and connection.

  • High stress can negatively impact your libido, as it triggers the release of cortisol, which can lower sex hormone levels. To support a healthy libido, try incorporating stress-relieving activities like meditation, deep breathing, and regular physical activity into your routine. Carving out time for relaxation and prioritising self-care can help reduce stress and improve your sexual wellness.
