Lara’s Story
I'd like to share a bit about my personal journey that has ignighted my passion for helping women rediscover their optimal mental, physical and sexual health, during midlife and beyond!
My path to becoming a functional medicine practitioner & a psychosexual therapist was not just a career choice; it was a profound evolution that emerged from my own health struggles. I've walked the challenging road of experiencing both Endometriosis and Hashimoto's disease and now I am in Perimenopause. These experiences opened my eyes to the intricate relationship between health, hormones and sexuality.
My journey began as a naturopath, driven by my personal challenges with these conditions. I became deeply committed to understanding the profound impact that hormonal imbalances, chronic health issues, and pain can have one’s overall well-being. My own healing ignited a desire to empower others facing similar challenges, and this marked the start of my journey into becoming an integrative perimenopause specialist.
Over the years, I noticed a glaring gap in the field of women's health. Far too often, I would work with women that had their health and sexual concerns ignored, dismissed, or met with silence. They felt lonely in their struggles, their voices unheard. This experience fueled my determination to bridge this gap and provide a space where women could openly address their well-being and sexual health without judgment, and with solutions.
In my own journey of early perimenopause I struggled with chronic insomnia and crippling anxiety, and sudden weight gain that left me feeling like my body had undergone an overnight metamorphosis or hijacking, I just didn’t feel like “me” anymore.
It was here that I committed to educating myself on the multifaceted symptoms, finding solutions, and changing my experience of this time of life, I was not going to just “suck it up” I was determined to redefine what midlife meant to me and give myself a different path than the one society narrates for us… and by doing this for myself, I knew I wanted to change the story for as many women as I could.
Recognising the inherent tendency for women to prioritise others over their own health, a resounding call echoed within me to carve out a space where their concerns are not merely acknowledged but are comprehensively addressed. This unwavering commitment propelled me to specialise in midlife women's health, hormones, and sexuality.
Pursuing advanced studies, I earned my Masters of Sexology, evolving into an Integrative Psycho-sexologist. This expansion broadened my focus beyond sexual health to encompass the intricate interplay of hormones in overall well-being during midlife.
My approach is deeply rooted in compassion, acknowledging the intricate web of each woman's journey. Having grappled with these struggles myself, I resonate intimately with the multifaceted nature of these challenges. Today, my practice is dedicated to guiding women and relationships through the nuanced landscape of midlife and peri/menopause.
I believe complete well-being needs holistic solutions that address not only the physical aspects of your health but also the emotional, sexual and relational dimensions. My mission is to empower women to reclaim their whole health, through body, mind, confidence, pleasure, and relational fulfilment.
I'm truly committed to helping women live their most fulfilling life!
